Description
Summary:This article aims to review the history of Sociology in Brazil, in particular, its institutionalization in elementary school. We compare two periods of time: the first one from 1925 to 1942 and the second one from 1990 until the present moment. We analyze its introduction in the schools by relating the emergence of sociology as a regular subject at schools and the historical context, demands and challenges. In this regard, we highlight three levels of study: (a) the relation between state and society; (b) the social agents that claim its institutionalization; (c) the conditions of social circulation and production of sociological knowledge. We find that in both periods, with different meanings, the introduction of sociology in the school was related to a social awareness of crisis and the need for institutional reconstruction, responding to historical demands of the constitution of new social actors.
