Summary: | The aim of this study was to investigate the wait times of children who received ventilation tubes for recurrent acute otitis media and or otitis media with effusion at Christchurch Hospital. The secondary aims were to investigate ethnicity based differences in wait times and provide recommendations for streamlining this pathway.
The median wait time from general practice referral to the day of surgery was 43.3 weeks. Patients were waiting a median time of 9.8 weeks after general practice referral to be seen in clinic and were spending 26.3 weeks on the waitlist for ventilation tube surgery.
