description A fatwa is a legal opinion from the mufti, whether binding or not, on issues that arise in Islamic society. Many researchers have conducted writing and research in the field of fatwas, leading to the publication of numerous theses, dissertations and scientific exercises on this subject. The creation of an Electronic Theses (ETD) initiative, known as Malaysian Thesis Online (MyTO), aims to manage the collection of theses and dissertations from both public and private universities in Malaysia. This article aims to present a bibliographic analysis of articles and studies related to fatwas found in MyTO during four decades (1979-2022). The research employed statistical and bibliometric methods to compile and analyse electronically accessible data from the database. Data was obtained by exploring the MyTO online database using keyword searches like "fatwa". The survey results showed approximately 129 publications related to the research topic in various fields of debate and types of research, either in Malay, Arabic, or English. The results of the study showed that the trend of writing and developing fatwa studies changes over time. Researchers can identify strengths, weaknesses, research styles, opportunities for fatwa-related writing, and future research directions with its assistance.
