Summary: | The strengthening of globalization of economic relations and the need to constantly attract resources to finance the growing needs of the economy require systematic and coordinated actions on the part of the State to ensure financial stability and debt security. The proposed scientific article is devoted to the topical issue of the need to study the theoretical foundations of debt security, which in recent years has become especially relevant for Ukraine due to economic and security challenges. The aim of the article is to conduct an in-depth study of the economic essence of the concept of «debt security» taking into account the need to ensure the socioeconomic development of the State. Analyzing, systematizing and summarizing the scientific works of foreign and domestic scientists, the evolution of approaches to the concept of «debt security» is considered. As a result of the study, the author?s own definition of this concept is proposed. In particular, debt security is proposed to be considered as the optimal level of debt burden, which allows to maintain sustainable socioeconomic development of the State, forming domestic demand and the necessary unshakable level of independence of the State. Excessive debt accumulation can lead to serious economic problems, such as rising borrowing costs, credit rating downgrades, and economic downturns. Therefore, the prospects for further research in this direction are the assessment of debt security, in particular the analysis of the level of debt burden, the identification of potential threats and risks, and the introduction of a holistic strategy for ensuring debt security.
