description | The study examined the use of technology in teaching and learning the English language in selected secondary schools within Kabale Municipality. The objectives were threefold: to analyze the extent to which technology is integrated into English language instruction, to identify challenges faced by teachers in utilizing technology for English teaching, and to propose effective strategies to address these challenges. The research employed a cross-sectional design, with data collected through interviews and questionnaires. Regarding the first objective, the majority of respondents highlighted the usefulness of social media platforms as tools for enhancing English language teaching and learning by providing diverse resources and fostering interactive opportunities. A smaller proportion of respondents emphasized the transformative role of educational apps, which offer interactive and accessible tools for learners through devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers. For the second objective, the most frequently mentioned challenges included limited access to computer equipment and the Internet, while fewer respondents cited negative attitudes and beliefs among teachers regarding the use of technology in classrooms. In addressing the third objective, most respondents identified teacher training in digital tools, platforms, and methods as a key strategy for effectively integrating technology into language instruction. A smaller group suggested using educational platforms and apps that enable teachers to customize content according to their students’ language proficiency levels. The study recommended implementing peer mentoring programs where experienced technology users guide less experienced colleagues in integrating technology into their teaching practices. It also suggested fostering regular peer feedback sessions and collaborative planning to enhance technology adoption in English language instruction. |
