Summary:The study examined individual attitudes and youth unemployment in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District. Specific Objectives of the study included; investigating the effect of individual attitudes on youth employment in Nyakagyeme Sub-County, identifying the causes of common negative attitudes held by individuals that may contribute to youth unemployment in Nyakagyeme Sub-County, Rukungiri District, and proposing strategies to address negative attitudes and promote youth employment opportunities in Nyakagyeme Sub-County, Rukungiri District. The Population of this study comprised unemployed youth, parents, and opinion leaders from Nyakagyeme sub-county who were added up to get 120 because they were the basis of the study and this provided the relevant answers to the study questions. For this to be achieved, the researcher used 92 respondents using Sloven’s formula. The researcher used simple random sampling, census, and convenience sampling. Ata collection tools used included questionnaires and interview guides. Descriptive analysis was used to determine the proportions and frequency of the variables. The results were presented in the form of frequency tables and percentages. The study findings revealed that individual attitudes significantly affect youth employment in Nyakagyeme Sub-County through various channels including; Understanding Individual Attitudeswhchacountefor20%, Cultural influences on attitudes which accounted for 24%, Economic Factors and Attitudes Towards Employment 18%, Education and Skills Development 12%, Role of Government Policies and Programs 9%, Entrepreneurial Mindset 7%nd Government Policies and Support Systems 11%. Positive shifts in these attitudes can lead to improved outcomes for young individuals seeking meaningful work opportunities. The study findings also revealed the causes of common negative attitudes held by individuals that may contribute to youth unemployment in Nyakagyeme Sub-County, Rukungiri District which include Perception of Job Availability which accounted for 13%, Stigmatization of Vocational Jobs which accounted for 9%,, Lack of Confidence and Self-Efficacy which accounted for 15%,, Resistance to Change and Adaptability which accounted for 11%, Influence of Peer Pressure which accounted for 17%, Limited Awareness of Opportunities which accounted for 18%, and Economic Factors and Market Conditions which accounted for 16%. The study findings also revealed the strategies to address negative attitudes and promote youth employment opportunities in Nyakagyeme Sub-County, Rukungiri District which include; Educational and Skills Development Programs which accounted for 15%, Media Engagement which accounted for 17%, Awareness Campaigns which accounted for 13%, Entrepreneurship Support Initiatives which accounted for 16%, Government Policy Advocacy which accounted for 16%, Monitoring and Evaluation which accounted for 16% and Collaboration with Local Businesses which accounted for 11%. The study concluded that to combat negative attitudes and promote youth employment opportunities in Nyakagyeme Sub-County, the study proposes several strategies. First, implementing community-based programs aimed at enhancing self-esteem and resilience among the youth can help shift mindsets towards more positive outlooks regarding employment. Second, increasing access to vocational training and entrepreneurship programs can equip young individuals with the necessary skills to enter the job market confidently. Third, engaging local leaders and successful entrepreneurs as mentors can provide inspiration and practical guidance for navigating career paths. Lastly, awareness campaigns highlighting the value of diverse employment options can help change cultural perceptions surrounding work. The study recommended organizing regular workshops that educate youth about the importance of a positive mindset in job searching and career advancement.
