description | This research aimed to use local earthenware clay to create water filtration pots in Kabale town. By using earthenware clay, the researcher hoped to contribute to environmental sustainability by improving and promoting eco-friendly water filtration practices. Through a multidisciplinary approach, this study combined elements of materials, design, and nature-inspired aesthetics. The water filtration pots were hoped to enable people to access clean water through affordable water filtration practices. The research was guided by the objectives: to improve water filtration practices in Kabale town; to increase safe water usage in Kabale town; and to produce prototypes for water filtration pots for use in Kabale town. The research involved a comprehensive approach to clay, including its workability, durability, and suitability for water filtration pot production. By employing various manufacturing techniques and finishes, the researcher explored ways to develop water filtration pots to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional qualities. The study employed the qualitative research approach and took on exploratory and experimental research designs. The data collection methods used were interviews, observation, documentation,n and ceramics practice-based applications. To validate the design concept and assess its market potential, the study included user surveys and feedback on the water filtration pots, and sustainability aspects. The findings will help identify consumer preferences, evaluate market demand, and fine-tune the design for commercial viability. The outcomes of this research will contribute to the fields of sustainable design, material science, and durability; by showcasing the potential of local earthenware clay as an alternative material for water filtration pots improving water filtration practices. The research findings will also provide valuable insights into the utilization of sustainable materials in the design industry, supporting the ongoing global efforts towards a more environmentally conscious future. |
