Summary:The study examined the effect of financial management and profitability of Savings and Credit cooperative societies in Kabale district a case study of Rukiga SACCO. The objectives of the study were; to examine the effect of budgeting on the profitability of Rukiga SACCO and to establish the relationship between financial management and the profitability of Rukiga SACCO. A descriptive research design was used and data was collected using interviews and questionnaires. The study results on the effect of budgeting on the profitability of Rukiga SACCO, the highest number of the respondents mentioned that budgeting allows Rukiga SACCO to allocate resources efficiently while the least number of the respondents mentioned that budgeting helps the SACCO set financial goals and develop plans to achieve them. The study results on the relationship between financial management and profitability of Rukiga SACCO, the highest number of respondents mentioned that financial planning and budgeting help the SACCO to set realistic financial goals and allocate resources efficiently, the lowest number of respondents mentioned that financial management help to maintain healthy cash flow. The study recommended that there should be involvement of key stakeholders in the budgeting process to ensure that all perspectives are considered, leading to more accurate and realistic budgets to improve profitability in SACCOs, there should be the development of detailed budgets that cover all aspects of the SACCO’s operations, including income, expenses, investments, and contingencies to improve profitability and there should be exploration and implementation of new revenue streams such as introducing new financial products, expanding membership and providing additional services for profitability.
