description The study examined the factors affecting the teaching and learning of the English language in primary schools in Kitumba Sub-County, Kabale District. It aimed at finding out the factors affecting the teaching and learning of English in Primary schools of Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district, analyzing the effect of the failed attempts to teach and learning of English in Primary schools of Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district, and examining the attitude of pupils to the teaching and learning of English in Primary schools. The study will be carried out Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district. The area is chosen because it will enhance the relevance, precision, and applicability of research findings and it’s nearer for the researcher. Both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies were employed as the research design. The study population ranged from staff members from the selected schools to pupils. Most of the respondents comprised primary teachers and head teachers from the selected schools. The study used both simple random sampling and purposive sampling procedures. The data filled in the questionnaires was copied and analyzed by tallying it and tabling it in frequency tables identifying how often certain responses occurred and later evaluation was done. The information was later recorded in terms of percentages. The recorded data was later edited and interpreted which ensured uniformity, legibility, and consistency. Also, interview results were coded on frequency tables and calculated in terms of percentages and presented in this study. Data was analyzed using various statistical techniques. Regression analysis and Pearson’s coefficient of correlation were carried out using the statistical package for social scientists (SPSS). The study findings showed that was lack of instructional materials is identified as the most significant factor affecting the teaching and learning of the English Language, as indicated by respondents other factors were Low teacher qualification/competency, Limited parental involvement, Overcrowded classrooms, Language barriers, Inadequate training on the new curriculum and poor school infrastructure. The findings obtained in the study indicated that the effect of the factors affecting the teaching and learning of English in Primary schools were reduced access to quality learning resources, ineffective teaching methods, poor Pupil outcomes, lack of support at home, decreased motivation, limited individual attention, poor classroom control, difficulty in comprehension, slower language acquisition, challenges in curriculum delivery, teacher frustration and distraction. From the study findings, it was concluded that there were several critical factors that significantly impacted the teaching and learning of the English language in primary schools. These factors, ranging from resource availability to teacher qualifications and parental involvement, collectively created an environment that could either enhance or hinder English language education. It was recommended that there is a need to allocate increased funding to ensure schools are well-equipped with necessary instructional materials, including textbooks, workbooks, and digital resources and to establish community outreach programs that emphasize the importance of parental involvement. Provide resources and training for parents to support English learning activities at home.
