The study focused on identifying and cataloging cultural tourism resources, assessing residents' attitudes and perceptions toward cultural tourism development, and evaluating the economic impact of cultural tourism on the district. A cross-sectional research design using a mixed-methods approach was applied, with participants selected through a combination of purposive and simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, in-depth interviews with key informants, and observational techniques. The findings identified a variety of cultural tourism resources, such as cultural values and lifestyles, architectural landmarks, museums, theatres, indigenous communities, art crafts (20%), cultural differences (18%), local resistance (12%), and conflicts arising from interactions between locals and tourists (13%). To maximize the economic benefits of cultural tourism in Kisoro District, it is crucial to involve local communities in decision-making and consult them on policies regarding cultural tourism resources, ensuring they have a voice in shaping these decisions. |
