X-Ray/Radio Quasiperiodic Pulsations Associated with Plasmoids in Solar Flare Current Sheets by Pankaj Kumar, Judith T. Karpen, Joel T. Dahlin

    Published 2025-01-01
“…The flux rope exhibits evidence of helical kink instability, with the formation and ejection of multiple plasmoids in the flare current sheet, as predicted in an MHD simulation of a kink-unstable flux rope. RHESSI X-ray images show double coronal sources (“looptop” and higher coronal sources) located at both ends of the flare current/plasma sheet. …”

Unaccountable counting: the folly of incorporating open ocean carbon sinks in Nationally Determined Contributions by Berger, Manon, Comte, Adrien, Kwiatkowski, Lester, Bopp, Laurent

    Published 2024-08-01
“…The national climate action plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions, referred to as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), currently include anthropogenic land-based carbon fluxes but typically exclude open ocean carbon sinks within Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs). Here, we utilise a high-resolution global ocean biogeochemical model alongside available observations to illustrate why including EEZ carbon sinks in NDCs would be both conceptually and practically highly problematic. To demonstrate this, we focus on the case of the French EEZ, where we simulate an anthropogenic carbon sink of 0.21 GtCO2·yr–1 over the past decade, representing nearly 50% of France’s territorial greenhouse gas emissions over the same period. …”

An Investigation into the Variability of Luminous Blue Variable Stars with TESS by Becca Spejcher, Noel D. Richardson, Herbert Pablo, Marina Beltran, Payton Butler, Eddie Avila

    Published 2025-01-01
“…We confirm the absence of correlation between any of the Fourier parameters and stellar parameters, implying that there is no trend in how these stars vary as measured with these photometric data, which may point toward these stars being an extension to the supergiant α Cygni variables and not a unique class of object with regards to their short-term variations.…”
